Its Been A While!

It has most definitely been a long time since I posted anything on here, but hopefully I will be able to start posting again now that my dissertation is out of the way! As a welcome back to both you and me I thought I would do a post of some of the books I am eager to purchase!

City of Heavenly Fire - Cassandra Clare

ΕRCHOMAI, SEBASTIAN HAD SAID.

I am coming.

Darkness returns to the Shadowhunter world. As their society falls apart around them, Clary, Jace, Simon and their friends must band together to fight the greatest evil the Nephilim have ever faced: Clary’s own brother. Nothing in the world can defeat him — must they journey to another world to find the chance? Lives will be lost, love sacrificed, and the whole world changed in the sixth and last installment of the Mortal Instruments series!

Arghhhhh I need this so bad! May 2014 has been a very long time coming for this book, however the wait is almost over!

My Last Kiss - Bethany Neal

What if your last kiss was with the wrong boy?
Cassidy Haines remembers her first kiss vividly. It was on the old covered bridge the summer before her freshman year with her boyfriend of three years, Ethan Keys. But her last kiss—the one she shared with someone at her seventeenth birthday party the night she died—is a blur. Cassidy is trapped in the living world, not only mourning the loss of her human body, but left with the grim suspicion that her untimely death wasn’t a suicide as everyone assumes. She can’t remember anything from the weeks leading up to her birthday and she’s worried that she may have betrayed her boyfriend.
If Cassidy is to uncover the truth about that fateful night and make amends with the only boy she’ll ever love, she must face her past and all the decisions she made—good and bad—that led to her last kiss.

Goddess - Josephine Angelini

After accidentally unleashing the gods from their captivity on Olympus, Helen must find a way to re-imprison them without starting a devastating war. But the gods are angry, and their thirst for blood already has a body count.
To make matters worse, the Oracle reveals that a diabolical Tyrant is lurking among them, which drives a wedge between the once-solid group of friends. As the gods use the Scions against one another, Lucas’s life hangs in the balance. Still unsure whether she loves him or Orion, Helen is forced to make a terrifying decision, for war is coming to her shores.
In Josephine Angelini’s compelling conclusion to the masterfully woven Starcrossed trilogy, a goddess must rise above it all to change a destiny that’s been written in the stars. With worlds built just as fast as they crumble, love and war collide in an all-out battle that will leave no question unanswered and no heart untouched.

Game of Thrones Review!

So a while ago I posted a blog post about what I was currently reading, and unfortunately it has taken me until now to finish that book! Game Of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, which is the first in the A Song Of Ice And Fire series, was the book that has taken me all this time to finish, and I thought it would be a good idea to write a review!

"Summers span decades.
Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle
for the Iron Throne has begun.
As Warden of the north,Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must... and dead nemy is a thing of beauty. The old gods have no power in the south, Stark's family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, a vengeance-mad boy has gown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities beyond the sea. Heir of the mad Dragon King deposed by Robert, he claims the Iron Throne.''

The fact that it took me a very long time to finish this book has nothing to do with the book itself, so don't take that in a bad light! I just had a lot of work to do for university, which left very little reading time! This book is a great read, and whilst yes it is very long, it keeps you glued to it, especially when you have the time to sit down and get stuck into it!

We meet some very vital families in this book the Starks, the Baratheons, the Lanasters and many more.   You very quickly find your favourite within the families, with the characters being easy to love, tolerate or out right hate. I personally found that Dany, Arya, Tyrion and Jon were my favourites, but it seems like they are supposed to be some of the many we love. I also personally found the people that I wish would have been killed off, which are also the people I believe you are supposed to hate as the reader.

This book is written in a way that makes it appear that there is a main plot, which follows particular characters, ( I won't say which), but it also has subplots running along with it that feed into each other and what appears to be the main plot, to make a story that spans a vast kingdom, and beyond that. I like how the plot appears and how the story uses this to progress at a steady rate across the 780 pages (not including the appendix). I also really enjoyed how the book is made up of 72 chapters, each of them written in the third person perspective of a character within the story. I feel that this helps us to know these chosen characters a lot better, and it makes it easier to understand Westeros and even across the sea in the free lands.

Game of Thrones does offer something that has been written about it a thousand times over, the fact that you just never know wether good of evil is going to win out. With most books you can see which side is going to win, and with a lot you know that the main characters (which are normally the good side), will win out and everything will win happily. This is not the case with Game of Thrones, you never have any faith that good will win, and when you get a tiny bit of hope, something happens and you are right back to not knowing.

I really enjoyed reading Game of Thrones, and would recommend it to others. Many people have seen the tv programme by HBO but have not read the books, I would say that you need to read the books, as I have personally read the book and seen the first series, there are things that are different, obviously, and some things that work better in either the book or tv show. I am currently reading the second book in the series 'A Clash of Kings' so there may be a review up for that soon!

Thank you!

To- Buy!

Once again I wasn't really sure what to call this post, so I just went with the same title as I did last time I did this post. I promise that I will come up with a good title for these posts other than 'To- Buy'! So again this post is just going to be like my waiting on wednesday post's, just for books that I am waiting to read, when I can get ahold of a copy!

The Edge Of Always (The Edge Of Never #2) - J.A.Redmerski

He was taking the long road. She was taking the road to nowhere. It just so happened that they led to the same place…

Five months ago, Camryn and Andrew, both dealing with personal hardships, met on a Greyhound bus. They fell in love and proved that when two people are meant to be together, fate will find a way to make it happen.

Now, in the highly anticipated sequel to THE EDGE OF NEVER, Camryn and Andrew are pursuing their love for music and living life to the fullest as they always swore to do. But when tragedy befalls them, their relationship is put to the ultimate test. As Camryn tries to numb her pain, Andrew makes a bold decision: To get their life back on track, they’ll set out on another cross-country road trip. Together they find excitement, passion, adventure—and challenges they never could have anticipated.

Vampires, Scones, and Edmund Herondale - Cassandra Clare

This standalone e-only short story illuminates the life of the enigmatic Magnus Bane, whose alluring personality populates the pages of the #1New York Times bestselling series, The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices series. This story in The Bane Chronicles, Vampires, Scones, and Edmund Herondale, is written by Sarah Rees Brennan and Cassandra Clare.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

                  Matched - Ally Condie

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

These are just a few books that I want to get a copy of! I probably wont be reading them for a while, so dont expect a review anytime soon, as I have one hell of a to - read list already! I will hopefully have the reviews up in a few months though! I would just like to add that 'The Edge Of Always' will most definitely be the first one that I read out of all of these books, mainly because I loved book #1 in the series ,'The Edge Of Never', so much!

If I Should Die Review!

If I Should Die - Amy Plum

'I will not lose another person I love. I will not let history repeat itself.

Vincent waited lifetimes to find me, but in an instant our future together was shattered. He was betrayed by someone we both called a friend, and I lost him. Now our enemy is determined to rule over France’s immortals, and willing to wage a war to get what they want.

It shouldn’t be possible, none of it should be, but this is my reality. I know Vincent is somewhere out there, I know he’s not completely gone, and I will do anything to save him.

After what we’ve already fought to achieve, a life without Vincent is unimaginable. He once swore to avoid dying—to go against his nature and forsake sacrificing himself for others—so that we could be together. How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?'

I have waited for what seems forever to read this book! I even had to wait a few weeks after it was actually released to read it! It was definitely well worth the wait! So this book 'If I Should Die' is book number three in the Revenants series written by Amy plum. The previous two books left us at a rather crucial place for a year whilst we waited for the final book to be released.

If I Should Die starts off from where the second book 'Until I Die' left off. Vincent is gone, and there is no way of finding him in time, and an increasing threat from the numa is looming. With the help of her family and her revenant friends, Kate sets out to save Vincent and France's immortals.

The characters within the book are ones that we have met before in this series, but seeing as I have not done a review on this series before, I shall talk about them a little bit. Kate is our heroine, the main character who started out this entire series when her parents died and she moved to Paris with her sister.  Kate is a character that you feel for right at the beginning, and that doesn't stop in this book either. Vincent is another very important character that aids in revealing the world of France's immortals to Kate and the reader. These two main characters are definitely some of my favourites within this series and within this book, but they are not the only ones. I also really love Kate's sister as a character, as well as Jules (a revenant) Ambrose and Charlotte(another two revenants).

The storyline within this book is just as strong as the other two books in the series. It starts off at the pace that 'Until I Die' finishes at. It keeps you interested the whole way through, and it did not loose my attention at any point throughout the story. It kept my interest so well, which meant that I finished the book in a stupidly quick time!

The only real problem that I had with this book is the way it ended, not that it was a bad ending, but because it left me needing to know more, needing to know how Kate progressed as a revenant and how her and Vincent's relationship developed from that point. This was more of a problem for me because of the fact that this book is the last in this series, so we will never find any more of Kate's story.

I strongly recommend not just this book, but the entire series! There are three books and one novella in this series called 'Die For Me' #1, 'Until I Die' #2, 'If I Should Die' #3, and 'Die For Her' #2.5. If you like books that include romance, action and most importantly immortals, then the series is definitely for you! And if you have read all in the series but 'If I Should Die', then you wont need to be convinced to read this book, you will already be hooked!

The Edge Of Never Review!

The Edge Of Never - J. A. Redmerski

Twenty-year-old Camryn Bennett thought she knew exactly where her life was going. But after a wild night at the hottest club in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, she shocks everyone-including herself-when she decides to leave the only life she's ever known and set out on her own. Grabbing her purse and her cell phone, Camryn boards a Greyhound bus ready to find herself. Instead, she finds Andrew Parrish.

Sexy and exciting, Andrew lives life like there is no tomorrow. He persuades Camryn to do things she never thought she would and shows her how to give in to her deepest, most forbidden desires. Soon he becomes the center of her daring new life, pulling love and lust and emotion out of her in ways she never imagined possible. But there is more to Andrew than Camryn realizes. Will his secret push them inseparably together-or destroy them forever?

Where to even start? I decided to give this book a go a while ago once I had found it whilst browsing through Goodreads one afternoon. I had previously read books by Redmerski, so I was very willing to give this book a go! If im honest I am so glad that I did give this book a go, I really loved it, and it took my emotions on a little roller coaster for a while! I know I have said this a few times with 'Easy' and 'Pushing The Limits', but this book has become one of my favourites, and joins those two I mentioned before at the top of the list.

So 'The Edge of never' is based around the leading lady Camryn Bennett, who leaves her life in North Carolina and takes off on her own, to live a different way to 'find herself'. Of course she meets someone along the way, the very sexy Andrew Parrish, and he helps her to find herself. (I know I am just writing out the blurb in a different way). Even though Andrew helps Camryn to find herself, and she him I guess, there is definitely a secret coming that I must say, I did not expect.

Camryn Bennett is definitely one of my favourite characters in a book, mainly because I loved her personality, and how she dealt with the things that were happening to her/ around her. She is a character that is easy to love, and so is Andrew. Together they are even more loveable, and they draw you more into the story, getting you to root for them from quite early on. This book is focused mainly of these two characters, and for the most part they are the only important characters that are focused upon. However at some points other characters are brought in, and have important roles within the story. Even though these characters don't have as much page time, they are all strong characters, meaning that Redmerski has created a book that has both a strong storyline and strong characters to help draw you in.

The storyline in this book is great! It builds slowly but still manages to keep you interested, mainly just to see where its going to go. Not many books can get away with having a slow build and still keeping the reader interested, which speaks volumes about this book. As I said the storyline builds slowly at the start, and I mean at the start only, as it takes off at a much faster pace just when you are not expecting it. This change it pace works extremely well within this book, well it did for me anyway!

Can we also just take note of the fantastic cover for this book? I don't know what it is about it but the cover does draw you in, and after reading the book I feel as though it suits the story very well! And its pretty!

I would definitely recommend this book to a lot of people, I have even been recommending it to people! I know that I will be reading it again soon, and I suggest that you guys go and read it as well! I also highly recommend that people read anything written by Redmerski, but mainly 'The Mayfair Moon' and 'Kindred', the first two books in 'The Darkwoods Trilogy'.

In My Mailbox!

It has been a while since i have done a post with this title, so I thought it was about time to bring it back again! With university out of the way for another summer I can finally catch up on some missed reading, and that means new books! So this post is sharing with you guys the books that I have received 'In My Mailbox' or letter box.

1. If I Should Die (Revenants book 3) - Amy Plum

I will not lose another person I love.
How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?

2. Pretties (Uglies book 2) - Scott Westerfeld

Tally has finally become 'pretty'.
Her looks are beyond perfect, her clothes are cool, her boyfriend is totally gorgeous, and she's completely popular. It's everything she's ever wanted.
But beneath all the fun - the non-stop parties, the high-tech luxury, the total freedom - is a nagging feeling that something is very wrong. Something important. And sure enough, when a message from Tally's 'ugly' past arrives, the fun stops cold. Now Tally has to choose between fighting to forget what she knows and fighting for her life...

I can not wait to start reading these books, mainly 'If I Should Die' as I have waited for what seems like forever for it to be released after the bombshell in 'Until I die' (Revenants book 2). I am also looking forward to continuing Tally's story in 'Pretties', and to see how it progresses from 'Uglies' (Uglies book 1). I will probably do some reviews on these two books, well actually I will definitely be doing reviews on these once I have read them!

Uglies Review!

Uglies - Scott Westerfeld

Tally Youngblood is about to turn sixteen, and she can't wait for the operation that turns everyone from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to party.
But new friend Shay would rather hoverboard to "the Smoke" and be free. Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world and it isn't very pretty. The "Special Circumstances" authority Dr Cable offers Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all.
The choice Tally makes changes her world forever.

I had mentioned this book a few times in previous blogs, saying about how much the blurb interested me, and about how much I wanted to read it. My judgement was spot on, this book was definitely a good read!

So Uglies is set a long time in the future, and humanity has moved on in leaps and bounds. Humanity is also split up in to different sections, with the main being the uglies and the pretties. You are an ugly until the age of 16, which is when you have an operation that makes you pretty. I thought that this was an interesting idea, and felt like it was kind of like the next step for humanity, seeing as there is so much focus on peoples looks these days. I also liked how it is set in the future, with humanity as we know it completely gone, wiped out by some catastrophe that we caused ourselves.

So the characters.... Well I loved them as well, especially Tally Youngblood who the story is set around. I felt that she was a very strong character, and we saw her views change throughout the book, which in turn makes the readers views change along with hers. I also really liked David as he helped Tally's character develop, but I also feel that maybe he was a tiny bit predictable at first, however that was soon not the case. I am not going to go into too much detail about David as it could give away some key parts of the story, and I don't want to ruin it for anyone! I really loved some more of the characters, and really hated some (which I am pretty sure was intended). Scott Westerfeld has produced a book full of great characters!

As I have said before I really liked the ideas behind this book, and everything that makes the storyline. I believe that what makes this story is how real it could actually be. With the way that humanity as we know it was wiped out by some sort of catastrophe feels almost too real, and its plausible that it could happen. The ending to this book was good, but I guess it could have been a little better, but then again things can always be better. Despite the ending I still really want to go out and get the next book 'Pretties' where Tally's story continues from this book, so the ending must have done its job!

Westerfeld has written a fantastic book with Uglies, a truly captivating book. The book isn't too slow at working its way through the storyline and its not too rushed that you miss anything either. The storyline is interesting, and it reveals things at a pace that keeps you reading on to find out more. I would really recommend that people read this book, and I don't think many would be disappointed with it!

Mini Book Haul!

So I recently bought a few new books, and I thought that it would be a good idea to share the books with you. All of these books have been bought for me, or I have purchased since my last blog post! The majority are paperbacks but a couple are digital books.

1. Uglies - Scott Westerfeld
2. The Edge Of Never - J.A. Redmerski
3. What Really Happened In Peru - Cassandra Clare
4. Trainspotting - Irvine Welsh
5. Unraveling - Micalea Smeltzer
6. Anna Dressed In Blood - Kendare Blake

I have already finished Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, and I really enjoyed it, so there should be a review up on here pretty soon for that book! Hopefully I will be able to read the other books soon and have some reviews up for them, however my university work may get in the way of me reading and reviewing for just a couple more weeks.

Falling Into You Review!

Falling Into You - Jasinda Wilder

I wasn't always in love with Colton Calloway; I was in love with his younger brother, Kyle, first. Kyle was my first one true love, my first in every way.

Then, one stormy August night, he died, and the person I was died with him.
Colton didn't teach me how to live. He didn't heal the pain. He didn't make it okay. He taught me how to hurt, how to not be okay, and, eventually, how to let go.

I found this book whilst I was looking through Goodreads, when it popped up as something similar to another book. I was intrigued by the cover, and the blurb just pulled me right in! I was interested to see how the story paned out, and how the main girl, Nel, went from loving one brother, to loving another. I was interested to see how the 'pain' was written and to see just how emotional this read would be. Yes this is a book for the more adult reader as it does not shy away from the physical sides of relationships, they help the story to work.

Jasinda Wilder's writing had me hooked, and it took me on an emotional roller coaster. I went back to when I was sixteen and feeling giddy, I felt and remembered the happiness at that age. She makes you fall in love, then rips out your heart (much like a lot of authors), gives you some hope, and then repeats the process. She somehow manages to make you experience this along with the characters, (either one of them or both at the same time)! I will say that the way in which this book is written, is not my favourite writing style out there, and maybe in other books it would annoy me, but this book has a story that effects you in other ways and the writing style is sort of forgotten.

So we start off meeting sixteen year old Nel and sixteen year old Kyle. We get introduced to a few other, less significant characters, that I felt really didn't have that much of an impact on the story, and a huge impact was not needed. The start of the book explores an important part of a teenagers life, and how peers influence decisions. I wasn't expecting the book to jump quite as much as it does, if im honest I was expecting it to flow along day by day, but it does not. The jumping actually worked out better for the book than it would have if it was a day by day book. This jumping forward in time helps us to get background information on the story and the characters, and helps us see how they develop into the story about how Colton helps Nel deal with her pain.

It was good to see the changes shown between first love and loves that follow. The awkwardness of a first love is portrayed well, with the fumbling, curiosity and the excitement of something new, and having to be physical over and over again, purely because its fun and new. The difference between this and the later love is staggering, you see how Nel has matured whilst she was broken, maybe even because she was broken. The need to do be physical changes from being just because its new and exciting to being because it truly is a need, because it feels good, because its what she wants. We see how the first love is when you are young and carefree, and completely caught up in it, but the later love is different, its fully of things to worry about, things to feel. I felt this was really good as it portrayed just how relationships are in real life and how they change as we grow older.

This book is very different from the more adult novels that I have read, and maybe even from most of the ones that I haven't read, as it isn't necessarily a book about the physical parts, its a story that runs deeper, that cuts a lot deeper, and makes you feel the pain. I think that I would probably give this book a 3.5 - 4 stars rating overall, maybe pushing to a 4.5 stars.

TMI Movie Posters & Trailer!

Okay so I know this is a little different from blogging about books, but as I have mentioned before, my all time favourite series is being made into films, with the first coming out this August! A while ago I posted the first trailer for the movie, but last night the second trailer was released, so I felt it was fitting to share it with you guys. The trailer was first shown on Saturday at wondercon, which is also where these fantastic new movie posters were shown.

The posters show Jamie Campbell Bower are Jace Wayland and Lily Collins as Clary Fray. And they have been combined into one theatrical poster.

Now here is the second trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones!

When the family arrives at their summer getaway, Sadie is surprised to learn that the owner of the house is Jax Stone, one of the hottest teen rockers in the world. Relationships never work in his world and as badly as he wants Sadie, he believes she deserves more. By the end of the summer, Jax discovers he can't breathe without Sadie.

Book I Want To Buy

Tempest - Julie Cross

The year is 2009.  Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy… he’s in college, has a girlfriend… and he can travel back through time. But it’s not like the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there’s no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors – it’s just harmless fun.
That is… until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.
Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.
But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler.  Recruit… or kill him. Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far
he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world.

Bye for now :)

Easter Weekend Day Three!

Easter Sunday is here and I guess that marks the end of easter, but I have decided to continue this little series of posts on for one more day, as it is for the easter weekend, and many people are still off of work tomorrow! And I may have been having fun making these and looking at books I love :P.

Book I Love

Clockwork Angel- Cassandra Clare

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.
Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by—and torn between—two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length . . . everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world. . . . and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.
