Game of Thrones Review!

So a while ago I posted a blog post about what I was currently reading, and unfortunately it has taken me until now to finish that book! Game Of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, which is the first in the A Song Of Ice And Fire series, was the book that has taken me all this time to finish, and I thought it would be a good idea to write a review!

"Summers span decades.
Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle
for the Iron Throne has begun.
As Warden of the north,Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must... and dead nemy is a thing of beauty. The old gods have no power in the south, Stark's family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, a vengeance-mad boy has gown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities beyond the sea. Heir of the mad Dragon King deposed by Robert, he claims the Iron Throne.''

The fact that it took me a very long time to finish this book has nothing to do with the book itself, so don't take that in a bad light! I just had a lot of work to do for university, which left very little reading time! This book is a great read, and whilst yes it is very long, it keeps you glued to it, especially when you have the time to sit down and get stuck into it!

We meet some very vital families in this book the Starks, the Baratheons, the Lanasters and many more.   You very quickly find your favourite within the families, with the characters being easy to love, tolerate or out right hate. I personally found that Dany, Arya, Tyrion and Jon were my favourites, but it seems like they are supposed to be some of the many we love. I also personally found the people that I wish would have been killed off, which are also the people I believe you are supposed to hate as the reader.

This book is written in a way that makes it appear that there is a main plot, which follows particular characters, ( I won't say which), but it also has subplots running along with it that feed into each other and what appears to be the main plot, to make a story that spans a vast kingdom, and beyond that. I like how the plot appears and how the story uses this to progress at a steady rate across the 780 pages (not including the appendix). I also really enjoyed how the book is made up of 72 chapters, each of them written in the third person perspective of a character within the story. I feel that this helps us to know these chosen characters a lot better, and it makes it easier to understand Westeros and even across the sea in the free lands.

Game of Thrones does offer something that has been written about it a thousand times over, the fact that you just never know wether good of evil is going to win out. With most books you can see which side is going to win, and with a lot you know that the main characters (which are normally the good side), will win out and everything will win happily. This is not the case with Game of Thrones, you never have any faith that good will win, and when you get a tiny bit of hope, something happens and you are right back to not knowing.

I really enjoyed reading Game of Thrones, and would recommend it to others. Many people have seen the tv programme by HBO but have not read the books, I would say that you need to read the books, as I have personally read the book and seen the first series, there are things that are different, obviously, and some things that work better in either the book or tv show. I am currently reading the second book in the series 'A Clash of Kings' so there may be a review up for that soon!

Bye for now :)

But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

These are just a few books that I want to get a copy of! I probably wont be reading them for a while, so dont expect a review anytime soon, as I have one hell of a to - read list already! I will hopefully have the reviews up in a few months though! I would just like to add that 'The Edge Of Always' will most definitely be the first one that I read out of all of these books, mainly because I loved book #1 in the series ,'The Edge Of Never', so much!

Bye for now :)

If I Should Die Review!

If I Should Die - Amy Plum

'I will not lose another person I love. I will not let history repeat itself.

Vincent waited lifetimes to find me, but in an instant our future together was shattered. He was betrayed by someone we both called a friend, and I lost him. Now our enemy is determined to rule over France’s immortals, and willing to wage a war to get what they want.

It shouldn’t be possible, none of it should be, but this is my reality. I know Vincent is somewhere out there, I know he’s not completely gone, and I will do anything to save him.

After what we’ve already fought to achieve, a life without Vincent is unimaginable. He once swore to avoid dying—to go against his nature and forsake sacrificing himself for others—so that we could be together. How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?'

I have waited for what seems forever to read this book! I even had to wait a few weeks after it was actually released to read it! It was definitely well worth the wait! So this book 'If I Should Die' is book number three in the Revenants series written by Amy plum. The previous two books left us at a rather crucial place for a year whilst we waited for the final book to be released.

If I Should Die starts off from where the second book 'Until I Die' left off. Vincent is gone, and there is no way of finding him in time, and an increasing threat from the numa is looming. With the help of her family and her revenant friends, Kate sets out to save Vincent and France's immortals.

The characters within the book are ones that we have met before in this series, but seeing as I have not done a review on this series before, I shall talk about them a little bit. Kate is our heroine, the main character who started out this entire series when her parents died and she moved to Paris with her sister.  Kate is a character that you feel for right at the beginning, and that doesn't stop in this book either. Vincent is another very important character that aids in revealing the world of France's immortals to Kate and the reader. These two main characters are definitely some of my favourites within this series and within this book, but they are not the only ones. I also really love Kate's sister as a character, as well as Jules (a revenant) Ambrose and Charlotte(another two revenants).

The storyline within this book is just as strong as the other two books in the series. It starts off at the pace that 'Until I Die' finishes at. It keeps you interested the whole way through, and it did not loose my attention at any point throughout the story. It kept my interest so well, which meant that I finished the book in a stupidly quick time!

The only real problem that I had with this book is the way it ended, not that it was a bad ending, but because it left me needing to know more, needing to know how Kate progressed as a revenant and how her and Vincent's relationship developed from that point. This was more of a problem for me because of the fact that this book is the last in this series, so we will never find any more of Kate's story.

I strongly recommend not just this book, but the entire series! There are three books and one novella in this series called 'Die For Me' #1, 'Until I Die' #2, 'If I Should Die' #3, and 'Die For Her' #2.5. If you like books that include romance, action and most importantly immortals, then the series is definitely for you! And if you have read all in the series but 'If I Should Die', then you wont need to be convinced to read this book, you will already be hooked!
